Styling With Plaid Shirts

What do you see in your mind when you think about plaid? If you ask me, I only think about the old Scottish kilt worn during the olden days, and I also imagine a bunch of school girl skirts when I think about plaid. Although this is usually what is in our minds when we think of plaid, today, there are a myriad of modern styles for plaid that you can choose from. The pattern has evolved to fit the modern times and slowly branched out to fit the needs of the modern, fashionable woman. The thing is, when the right piece of plaid and color is chosen properly, it can really bring an attractive, head-turning pattern to what is an otherwise bland and solid-colored outfit.

There are so many ways to wear plaid, and so many nice clothes to combine with it. If you want to achieve a certain look, it is important to combine your plaid shirt with the right bottoms and accessories. To help you decide what to wear with your plaid shirt, here is a guide where you can start:
Casual Look
To achieve the casual look with the plaid shirt, the simplest and most effective way to do it is to wear it along with your jeans. This look would make you look effortlessly casual and it can also bring out the "lady" in you. Sometimes, wearing a plaid shirt with jeans on and adding a cowboy hat on top of it would really make you look like a farm girl ready for the harvest. Boots can also finish this awesome look, but you can also wear it with sneakers if you are into the more casual "street" style.

Grunge Look
Remember the Nirvana of the 90's? Remember how Kurt Cobain, the front man of the band, rocked some cool plaid shirts to go along with his denim jeans? Plaid shirts can be used to rock some cool "grunge" look, but you have to know what to combine along with it in order to pull off this specific look. For starters, you should pick an oversized plaid shirt that you can layer over other items if you are going for that "Seattle" grunge look. Starting off your day with a pair of ripped jeans or some cut off denim shorts in warmer weather is a great way to emulate that grunge look, and you can finish the top of by wearing your favorite band's black t-shirt under your plaid shirt.
Preppy Look
Although this is not what the plaid shirt is usually known for, you can also create a preppy look by wearing the plaid shirt along with a high waisted bottom --- which can either be some pants or shorts.

Over the years, the plaid shirt has been a staple that has really evolved to fit the needs of modern women. From cropped shirts to blouses and jackets, the plaid shirt has grown to fill different niches. If you are looking for something striking yet minimalist and casual, this red plaid shirt from Dabagirl is worth a second look.
