Wearing Long Cardigans To Improve Your Outfit

For some old school people out there, the cardigan is something that they associate being a part of the twin set matching with a sleeveless cream blouse and a pencil skirt --- an outfit that is highly reminiscent of the decade 1950s. But to tell you the turth, that is so old school! Today’s cardigans come in so many varied styles, colors, cuts and materials that stereotyping it would not work anymore. When the weather starts to get cold and the Fall season starts to creep in, having a pair of cardigans at your disposal is definitely something that you should invest in.

But what is a cardigan anyway? In simplest terms, a cardigan is simply an overhaul, knitted clothing garment that typically fastens or buttons in the front. As it was originally created as a man’s knitted waist coat, the original cardigan were known as knit sweater jackets that eventually evolved into the woman's outer garment that people are familiar with today.

There is no right or wrong way to wear a cardigan, because they can be worn depending on the style that you are trying to go for. But when it comes to overly long cardigans, there are certain rules that you must try to follow. Long cardigans are those that go beyond the length of your waist and can reach as low as your thigh area. Long cardigans look really elegant and nice, but you have to wear them smart if you want them to look really nice.

So how do you wear a long open cardigan? The trick is really simple --- do not wear a bulky top and never wear a bulky bottom. Because the long cardigan is already a bulky piece of clothing by itself, there is no sense in wearing a bulky top or a bulky bottom too. A great tip that i can share with you is to wear a long cardigan with a slim fitted pants or leggings that hug the shape of your legs. By doing this, the bulky look of your top due to the long cardigan will be balanced out by your slim bottoms and it will make your outfit look nice. Also, try finishing your look of with boots to make yourself look taller. The added height will be nice for those who aren't too tall because the long cardigan can make you look smaller if it is too long.

If you want to check out some nice long open cardigans, this one from Ojane is similar to what I have in my own closet, so check it out!
