If you think pleated skirts have lost their flare, think again! The pleated style of skirt has a long history and it has never stopped growing in popularity even until today. Simply put, the pleated skirt has long been a favorite of many girls, and it is not limited to cheerleaders and school girls only. Originally introduced at the early years of the 20th century, the first pleated skirts were originally intended to make the wearers hips look bigger and wider. After years of innovation, evolution and recreation, the pleated skirt has grown into a much more refined and stylish piece of clothing, which became even more popular with its exposure on Japanese anime characters.
There are so many ways to wear a pleated skirt, and I would try to highlight some of them in the following section. Although I don't always wear pleated skirts all the time (partly due to the cold weather) the following guidelines have helped me create a checklist on how to make sure that the pleated skirt would look good on me:
Show Off Your Waist By Highlighting Your Waist Band
One of the best ways to utilize the pleated skirt is to highlight your waist. Because the pleated skirt tapers down from the hips to the legs to form an A - Line, you can highlight the waist by showing off your waist band. This style can really make you look chic and feminine and can highlight the curves on your body, which can work depending on how you want to be perceived.
Pair Them up With Heels
On its own, the pleated skirt is already a gorgeous and stylish piece of fashion clothing. But, when paired with an elegant foot wear that has high heels, the pleated skirt is transformed into a sexier, more stylish piece of garment. Try to wear it with low-heeled pumps, then wear it again with a high-heeled shoes --- try to see how much difference the high heel makes.
Layer Them With Leggings
Remember when I said that I wasn't wearing pleated skirts as much because of my issue with the cold weather. Well, if you want to stay fashionable while protecting yourself from the cold, add some leggings into the mix and I am sure you will be able to wear your pleated skirts even during the coldest days.
Truly, the pleated skirt has grown so much from its earlier days. Nowadays, women have so many style and material options to choose from, making the pleated skirt a lot versatile than before. Check out these pretty pleated skirts from Mix x Mix where I also bought my own pair of pleated skirts!
