How To Choose And Take Care of Your Suede Garment

Suede is one of those materials that you either love or hate. Finding a middle ground when it comes to your adoration of this material is difficult because of certain factors that come into play. First of all, suede can be really difficult and complicated to maintain. The softest suede can turn into a very rough material if it comes into contact with liquid and water, and this can really ruin the overall look and feel of the garment that you are wearing. What you once consider your most favorite suede item can quickly turn into something unwearable if you get it wet. Furthermore, too much exposure to the sun's ultra violet rays can also bleach and fade the vibrant colors of your suede garment. Sun exposure can create all those nasty, unflattering "white" suede spots that can ruin a once very attractive piece of suede clothing.

How To Take Care Of Suede?

So with all of these negative things that can happen to suede, why did the Spring 2015 collection of high-end designer brands consist of a lot of suede clothing? The answer is quite simple -- suede is one of the most comfortable, luxurious and elegant materials if taken care of properly. High-end designer brands wouldn't put their money on producing a whole set of suede collection if they don't feel like the trade-off is all worth it. Usually made from the underside of animals such as lamb, goat and cows, suede's fabric tends to be softer and thinner -- which is perfect for making soft jackets that can be worn in Spring, or even Summer if the weather isn't too harsh. Compared to standard animal skin leather, suede is a lot more softer, creamy and flowing -- which is why it is a preferred material for making garments even by high end designer brands

Taking care of your suede garment is not that complicated, but it is not that easy as well. A little effort is required in taking care of suede compared to the usual leather or cotton garment. First of all, never ever get your suede wet if it can be avoided. Just like what I said earlier in my post, suede is a delicate material that can really change its texture when it is wet with water. Dry cleaning is mandatory, and so is the application of anti-water or water repelling spray. These can be bought in shopping malls or suede specialty shops -- don't ruin that thousand dollar suede jacket just because you want to save a few dollars on water repellents.

Another thing to note is that you should keep your suede in a cool, dry place away from sunlight to extend its life to the fullest possible. Sunlight can ruin the look of your suede and it can also cause bleaching and fading.

If you can do these things, you are in a great position to bring the life of your suede garment to the fullest! Suede is a great material to wear because it is thin and soft, and it is also a wonderful material to use in women's jackets. Just check out this beautiful faux suede jacket from Style Nanda --- made from high quality materials that would last you a long time if taken care of properly, this is the kind of jacket that I would strut in the coming Spring!
